Dusky Totanus

Totanus fuscus

A rare British bird with only some seventeen recorded occurrences, the Dusky Totanus shows in summer a sooty-black head, neck, and under parts, with back and wings sooty-black bearing white triangular spots and tips, dark red legs, and a nearly black bill red at the base of the lower mandible. In winter the upper parts become ash-grey and the under parts pure white, dashed with grey on the cheeks, neck, and breast sides.
