Grey Phalarope
Phalaropus lobatus
Now obtained in various localities almost every autumn and winter, the Grey Phalarope belongs properly to very northern Arctic latitudes, where it breeds and is often met far out at sea feeding on minute marine animals. Its breeding dress shows deep brownish-orange under parts, a clove-brown crown, and a blackish back edged with sienna-yellow, while the chaste winter plumage is white below with bluish-grey back and a greyish-black nape.
