Maneless Lion

Felis leo gougeratensis

Somewhat smaller than the African lion and destitute of mane, this beast bears instead a frill of long hairs under the throat and a large bushy tuft of black hair at the tail’s end. A proud and noble creature, perhaps less enterprising than its relatives, it may be a mere variety and is found in Guzzerat and westward through Southern Persia to the borders of Arabia.
