Fratercula arctica

A summer visitant repairing to British shores to breed, the bill occupying the whole face, compressed and furrowed in bluish grey and orange-red, the cheeks pale grey, the crown, collar, and upper parts black, the under parts white, and the feet orange-red. It breeds in rock fissures and burrows often shared with rabbits, gathers in colonies that wheel in one flock when alarmed, is eaten and salted by island folk, and breeds in abundance in Labrador.
