Diard’s Pheasant (Female)

Phasianus veriscolor

Nearly the size and form of the common naturalised breed though shorter in tail, this beautiful pheasant of Japan has the scarlet-cheeked male with head and neck golden green, throat and fore neck lively blue, and body deep shining green. The back feathers are banded yellowish-white on metallic green bordered with golden yellow, total length about three feet seven, the smaller female closely resembling the common hen pheasant but greener.
