Arabian Cheilodipterus

Cheilodipterus Arabicus

A native of the Red Sea frequently taken by the Arabs, this small fish has a doubly edged, finely serrated preopercle, two widely separated dorsals, large readily shed scales, and a portion of its teeth long and sharp. Fresh olive green above, it changes to silvery flushed with rose below, the body marked lengthwise by fourteen to seventeen dark lines, with a cross band and a round black spot at the tail and a grey first dorsal edged with black.
