Black Bass of the Huron

Huro nigricans

Known to English residents of the Huron as the Black Bass, its firm white flesh is much esteemed in summer, the specimen examined reaching sixteen inches. Olive brown above, changing to yellowish white on the belly, with a pale central line on each scale lending a striped look, it has a rather deep body, a slightly projecting lower jaw, scaled head and cheeks, a small six-rayed first dorsal, and a large anal fin.
