Ferruginous Ground Dove
Chæmepelia Talpicoti
A diminutive bird of about six and a quarter inches, widely spread through Brazil, Paraguay, and other parts of South America, living in open grounds near woods, roosting and breeding only on low bushes, and so tame it frequents farm-yards. Usually seen in pairs or small families, it feeds on small grain and berries; the male shows ash-grey crown, pinkish-white cheeks, brownish-orange upper plumage, and deep vinaceous-red underparts.
