White-Bellied Ground Dove
Peristera Jamaicensis
A bird of Jamaica and South America to the River Plate, inhabiting wooded districts, concealing itself among low bushes and running with great activity on the ground, flying low and never long, usually alone or in pairs and feeding on grass-seeds and maize. About twelve inches long, it shows hoary-white forehead and throat, greenish-grey crown, vinaceous-red neck with lilac and golden reflections, white underparts, and umber-brown upper plumage.
