Brown Porcine Axis

Axis porcinus

Nearly the size of the Spotted Axis but heavy and clumsy with a rounded head, the Brown Porcine Axis was named the Hog Deer for its thick body, and is entirely yellowish-brown, slightly paler beneath, with white inner limbs, yellowish cheeks, and slender horns bearing a single short basal antler. Inhabiting the jungles of India, it is nonetheless extremely active and is among the species most frequently hunted on horseback or with greyhounds.
