Common Roebuck

Capreolus dorcus

One of the most elegant of native deer, the common Roebuck adorns the woods of the Scotch Highlands, where north of the Forth it abounds wherever rock and wood are found, sometimes so plentifully as to be condemned for damaging young wood. It frequents the lower civilised coverts, leaving the wilder solitudes to the Stag, and is very rare south of the Forth, though common in Germany, Silesia, and other suited districts, extending across the Asiatic boundary.
