Dama vualgaris

This common adornment of English parks is now scarcely found truly wild, though said to inhabit Moldavia and Lithuania; once royal game, it is now kept in vast enclosures and fed through winter. In summer it is yellowish-brown with numerous pale spots, white buttocks, a dark dorsal line, and white under parts; it varies to white and to a constant dark brown form whose fawns are unspotted, and its venison is highly esteemed.
