Long-Tailed Cormorant

Carbo longicaudus

A very small cormorant remarkable for its long graduated tail of twelve narrow rounded feathers, with a short yellow bill and naked temple and orbits that seem to have been red. The head, neck and sides are dull brown with pale-edged feathers passing into deep black to the tail, the scapular-covers greyish-white with black end-spots, the throat and breast mottled brown and the chin and underbody pure white, total length seventeen inches.
