Silky Tamarin

Midas rosalia

Entirely of a clear golden yellow, palest on the back and thighs, this neat little animal has fine, silky hair so long upon the head and neck as to form a ruffed mane resembling a lion’s, whence its common name. Often brought to Europe and a general favourite for its mild, gentle temper, it is nonetheless very tender, drooping and dying from the least damp, and is thought to live chiefly among trees like the squirrels.
