True Dhole

Chryseus scylax

The true dhole is sized between wolf and jackal, slightly made and high on the legs, of a light bay colour with a sharp face, keen eyes, and a greyhound’s form, the straight tail not bushy, the wide pointed ears triangular, with sooty nose, muzzle, and feet. It hunts in large packs uttering a fox-hound’s cry mixed with snarls, and occurs rarely in the Rhamghur hills and western Ghauts.
