Dhole of Ceylon

Chryseus Ceylonicus

The dhole of Ceylon, much allied to the true dhole, was described from a young specimen scarcely larger than a cat, about twenty-two inches from nose to tail with a sixteen-inch tapering tail, yellowish grey cast with brown, a long pointed head, and small pointed ears. Its claws resembled a cat’s more than a dog’s, with five toes on each foot, and a larger Cape race may extend the kind into Africa.
