Young of the Rasores & Grallatores

This plate gathers the young of the Rasores and Grallatores, whose chicks run almost immediately after hatching and are clothed in close ample down. In the Rasores the down shows shades of brown, chestnut, and yellow, in the Ardeadae grey and white, in the snipes and plovers brown, chestnut, yellow, or grey, while in the Rallidae it is deep brown or black, often mixed with red or orange about the head and of a coarse hair-like texture.
