Lesser Double-Collared Sun-Bird

Nectarinia chalybeia

A small and very beautiful African species of even-tailed form, in which the lower plumage is distributed in bands, the wings and tail blackish-brown glossed with green and the upper tail-coverts rich violet-purple, with tufts of king’s-yellow springing from the sides of the breast. The female from Southern Africa measures about four inches four-tenths, her whole plumage a brocoli-brown, darker on the wings and tail and paler beneath, the bill and legs brownish black.
