Nectarinia Lotenia

An Indian species first described by Linnaeus, five inches long with a considerably hooked inch-long bill, tolerably common in the Carnatic and west coast, frequenting gardens and jungles. The upper parts, cheeks and lesser coverts are dark metallic-green with blue and purple reflections, the chin velvet-black, the gular patch metallic-green shading to steel-blue tinted violet, then a narrow purplish-red band, the under parts dark yellowish hair-brown with ample king’s-yellow tufts; the female is light greenish-brown above and pale yellow beneath.
