Greater Double-Collared Sun-Birds

A really splendid species of Southern Africa, larger than its allies, the males rather more than five inches and a half, the head, neck and upper parts golden green of bronzed lustre, succeeded by a darker violet steel-blue band and a crimson band nearly an inch broad, with yellow axillary tufts. It frequents the eastern forests and plains of Caffraria and the Gamtoos and Sondag rivers, nesting in hollow trees and laying four or five bluish-white eggs marked with tawny.
