Scarlet-Bellied Sun-Bird

Nectarinia affinis

A very beautiful species from Manilla, four to four and a quarter inches, with whole crown green and golden reflections, black cheeks, the nape and mantle rich purplish maroon, green lesser coverts, metallic olive-green lower back with purple reflections, and a black tail edged with violet. Beneath, the chin, throat and neck are amethystine purple, the breast and belly scarlet, the vent oil-green, with a patch of bluish green feathers at the side of the breast and no axillary tufts.
