Nectarinia Hasseltii

A species of Java, scarcely four inches, with the whole crown brilliant golden green of soft texture, the cheeks, neck-sides, wings and tail deep velvet black, and the mantle, lower back and lesser coverts metallic olive-green or steel-blue varying with the light. Beneath, the chin is nearly black with maxillary stripes shading to an amethystine purple patch on neck and breast, flanked by small steel-blue spots, the lower breast and belly purplish maroon and the vent greyish black.
