Little Blue-Banded Sun-Birds

Nectarinia collaris

A pretty little species about four inches long, met with near the Gamtoos in troops of eight or nine, its upper parts bright yellowish green changing with every position, the throat similar but deeper and ending in a narrow blue band glossed with violet, the under parts dull yellow with pale primrose tufts in the axillas. The female has more yellow above, with yellowish-white chin shading to gamboge, and wants the male’s brilliant gular and pectoral markings.
