Black-Mouthed Dog-Fish

Syllium melanostomum

Bearing saw-like scales along the upper edge of the tail, the Black-Mouthed Dog-Fish was first ascertained British by Couch and is not uncommon on the west coast of Scotland and in the north of Ireland. About two feet long, it has a somewhat elongated snout, small teeth, a light brown back with two rows of ocellated spots, and a bluish-black mouth interior, the egg-purse being oblong with tendrils at one end only.
