Common Shoveller

Anas clypeata

A very beautiful and rare duck of considerable rarity, the head and neck appearing brown or rich green, the breast and scapulars pure white, the back blackish brown, with chestnut-brown belly and flanks and greyish blue on the wing. An inland bird seldom seen at sea, it feeds without diving unless hard pressed, breeds sparingly in the marshes of Norfolk, and ranges widely through Asia, India, Africa, Japan, and North America.
