Acerina cernua

Opening the division of percoid fishes with a single dorsal fin, equal teeth, and cavities in the cheek and jaw bones, this beautiful little British fish of five or six inches haunts the lakes and rivers of northern Europe in gregarious shoals taken with the rod. Golden green to olive above and silvery below, clouded with spots, it has a black-spotted dorsal and whitish lower fins tinged with red, two kindred species dwelling in the Danube, Don, and Dnieper.
