Eleven-Spined Centropome

Centropomus undecimalis

Abundant about the river mouths of South America and the colonies of Rio, Lima, and Cuba, this esteemed fish ascends streams so far as to pass for a freshwater species, reaching above twenty-five pounds and sold in cuts like larger fishes. Its pike-like form bears an elongated lower jaw, scaled cheeks and opercles, widely separate triangular dorsals, and a silvery body tinted brown or greenish, marked by a conspicuous black lateral line.
