Common Pike-Perch
Lucioperca sandra
Inhabiting the rivers, lakes, and seas of northern and eastern Europe but unknown in Italy, France, or Britain, this handsome fish grows rapidly to three or four feet and twenty pounds, with rich white flesh often salted and smoked for export. Greenish grey above and silvery below, the old bearing dark clouded spots and the young vertical bands, it has grey black-spotted dorsals and small close-set teeth among a few larger ones.
