Ælians’ Wart-Hog

Phascochaeres Æliani

Smaller than its Cape relative, this Abyssinian wart hog carries two upper incisors, six lower incisors, and large grooved corner teeth used for digging roots. Its earthy skin is scantily bristled, bearing a long mane between the ears, warts upon the cheeks, and a white curled whisker along the jaw, found at Kordofan and eastern Abyssinia, where it frequents low bushes and forests, creeping on bent fore-feet to grub for roots.
