Kuhl’s Coriphilus

Cori­philus Kuhlii

A beautiful little bird from an island near Otaheite, wild and timorous toward strangers, with a weak sibilous voice, first described from specimens received by Mr Cross. The short bill is red, the forehead and crown lively green, the double occipital crest rich violet-purple in long erectile feathers, the face, breast, and abdomen blood-red, the vent sulphur-yellow, and the back yellowish-green.
