Red-Cheeked Nymphicus

Nymphicus Novæ Hollandiæ

A New Holland bird in plain plumage yet attractive for its elegant crest and graceful contour, its elongated tarsi and toes giving freedom upon the ground where it seeks its food. Not numerous and little recorded, it is likely to form the rasorial type of its subfamily, while the lengthened tail-feathers suggest a distant affinity to the Ring Parrakeets with which the series began.
