Galvani’s Torpedo

Torpedo Galvani

A ray most powerfully supplied with galvanic influence, given to represent the form of the electrical fishes, the British torpedo being scarcely identified with those of continental seas. Its electric organ is of muscular nature, formed of numerous strata and cells with tendinous partitions filled with a thickish gelatinous fluid and supplied by many nerves, the shock proportioned to the vital powers and destroyed when the nerves are severed.
