Halgan’s Spine-Tailed Ray
Trygon Halgani
A small ray distinguished from its congeners by the bright spotting that adorns its upper surface, the back thickly marked with azure spots that beautifully relieve an otherwise pale uniform tint. It measures about six inches in body with some eight inches of tail, bearing a single flattened, finely barbed spine near the middle of the tail capable of a dangerous wound, and was found abundant in the Bay of Offack and New Ireland, where it furnished food.
