Reared by the Mograbins of the West, the drinkers of the wind are brown or grey, rather low, and shaped like greyhounds, almost destitute of flesh yet of high spirit and prodigious endurance, covering sixty miles in withering heat without a halt. Not mounted until seven years old, they are fed only once in three days upon camels’ milk, sometimes crushed dates, yet retain vigour enough to hunt the ostrich.
