Banded Schizodon
Schizodon fasciatus
Caught in the Rio Branco, this dark grey fish, yellowish on belly and head, has large smooth adhesive round scales, a straight lateral line, a short sloping head, fleshy lips, and a protractile mouth with obtuse serrated teeth in a single row. Its body is much elongated with a high back; it is caught by hook or shot with arrows, lives but a short time out of water, and was found feeding on the seed of the awarra palm.
