Tiger Pimelodus

Pimelodus arekaima

One of the finest table fish of Guiana’s rivers, taken in the Upper Essequibo and the Rio Branco, with firm fat flesh of excellent flavour and little bone, it bears a hard compressed cranium, two very long upper cirrhi, and oval dull-red eyes. Scaleless and of a reddish-brown colour spotted irregularly with black, whence its name Tiger-fish, it reaches over two feet, lives half an hour out of water, and is caught by hook or arrow above the falls.
