Stripe-Tailed Pimelodus

Pimelodus notatus

A very powerful fish taken on the Rio Branco and abundant in the Amazon, partial to muddy waters, reaching three feet long and triangular near the depressed head before rounding toward the much-developed tail. Of a leaden grey with thickly set black spots above, bluish cheeks and sides, cream belly and lower fins, and a black stripe on the lower caudal lobe, it is excellent eating, fat and well-tasted with little bone.
