Cychla-Like Centrarchus

Centrarchus cychla

Placed with Centrarchus chiefly because it recedes from typical Cychla, this fish retains banding and dark spots without ocellation, the opercle angles sharpened almost to blunt spines and the colours less vivid. Caught in the Rio Negro in March, it grows twelve inches, takes bait, and makes good eating, with worms found in its stomach; the deep greenish-grey body shows seven interrupted bands, a black spot near the tail, and vermilion below.
