Electric Gymnotus

Gymnotus electricus

Taken in the Rio Negro in February, this electric Gymnotus has a long slimy body, fleshy lips, a warty roof to the mouth, and a round fleshy tongue, the lower lip protruding considerably beyond the upper. The colouring is a deep bluish green above, shading to dull ochre on the snout and forward lower parts and paler in the middle, the anal fin a deeper shade bearing patches of yellow at its origin.
