Irregularly Banded Gymnotus
Gymnotus fasciatus
Found in the Rio Branco, this irregularly banded Gymnotus has a long body, depressed head, larger lower jaw, and lacks dorsal, ventral, and caudal fins, the anal running nearly the whole length. The scaling is very small and deciduous, the teeth in double rows, the eyes small and dark near the snout; it lives an hour or more out of water, is used for food, and is taken with small hooks baited with worms.
