Many-Spined Trygon
Trigon histrix?
Approaching D’Orbigny’s figure, this many-spined Trygon was killed in the River Roowa, measures twelve inches across, and is greenish brown irregularly spotted with black, two or three inches thick. The tail bears a row of fixed spines and two movable serrated ones, two or three inches long, whose poison inflicts a severe wound difficult to heal; frequenting sandy shallows where they dig round holes, they feed on animal food and are good eating, taken by hook and arrow.
