Red-Headed Cychla

Taken in the Rio Branco in April, this minutely drawn species has a row of teeth in each jaw, very small fringed deciduous scales, a single pointed air-bag, and small fish found in its stomach. The upper head and body are a delicate pale green continued onto the fin rays, while the lower head, breast, and ventral fin are rich vermilion, the body shading to pale rose, with a deep black spot at the tail.
