Yellow-Spotted Cychla

Cychla flavo-maculata

Inhabiting the Rio Negro and Padauiri and prized for its delicate flesh, this Cychla grows to two feet, swims swiftly, and destroys great numbers of smaller fishes, taking bait, rude artificial flies, or even a red rag. The body is greenish lake with three black bars and scattered yellow spots, a peacock-eye at the tail, indigo dorsal, vermilion lower fins, and a black-and-yellow iris; it lives but a short time out of water.
