Sumatran Cat

Felis Sumatrana

The Sumatran and Javanese Cat, formerly thought two species, is the young and adult of one animal about two feet long, ferruginous inclining to yellowish-grey, marked with four dark dorsal lines of confluent spots and scattered angular brown spots upon the sides. Found in Java and Sumatra but not the Indian continent, it lairs in hollow trees by day and ranges at night, raiding hen-roosts and even mimicking fowls; it is perfectly untameable, its fierceness never subdued by confinement.
