Chaus

Felis chaus

The Chaus is a lynx thickly covered with soft woolly hair of a dirty light ochre-yellow, darker on the back, the bristles ringed with brown and tipped pale so the whole appears a mixture of greyish-yellow and impure white, with a yellow dorsal streak and short black-tufted ears. Inhabiting marshes, river-banks, and lowlands by the Nile and Caspian, it hunts by night for birds, small animals, and fish, rarely climbs, and is not easily tamed.
