Columba cucullata Jacobina

A small but light and elegant domestic race that breeds true to its kind, distinguished by a remarkable ruff of raised feathers forming a monk-like hood down the head, neck, and breast. The bill is very short, the eyes ringed with naked red skin, the legs unplumed, and the head, wings, and tail always white; the hood is usually reddish-brown, though the most prized birds are entirely glossy white.
