Magnificent Fruit-Pigeon

Carpophaga magnifica

A native of eastern Australia named for its rich assemblage of colours, feeding chiefly on the fruit of the Cabbage Tree palm and rather surpassing the Common Ring Pigeon in size. The head and upper neck are pale bluish-grey, the upper body golden-green with wing-coverts spotted king’s-yellow, and a streak of auricula purple descends from the chin to cover breast and abdomen, with strong hooked claws formed for prehension.
