Oceanic Fruit-Pigeon
Carpophaga oceanica
An inhabitant of the Caroline and other Pacific islands, fourteen inches long and nearly a third smaller than the closely allied Nutmeg Pigeon, bearing a cherry-sized globular knob at the base of the bill that develops only in the breeding season. The back, wings, and tail shine with uniform metallic deep green, the throat greyish-white, the neck deep bluish-grey, the breast pale purplish-grey, and the feet vivid orange.
