Golden-Hooded Flycatcher

Monacha chrysomela

By far the most beautiful flycatcher yet discovered, its whole ground colour the brightest orange or golden yellow, the head feathers compact and forming an obsolete crest, relieved by a deep blue glossed black patch on the throat and ears and a black crescent across the interscapulars. The wing margin, primaries, secondaries, tertial inner webs, tail, and thighs are deep black, the bill blue black, and the single known specimen came from the woods of New Ireland.
