Crested Turtle

An Australian bird of the interior and mountainous districts, provisionally placed among the turtles and rendered remarkable by a long occipital crest resembling that of the common Peewit, though its particular habits remain unrecorded. The head, neck, and under plumage are pale grey, the crest grayish-black, the back clove-brown barred with black, the greater coverts shining metallic green, and the tail violet with a green lustre tipped white.
